Morning Prayers

Antiphon

Never forget to show kindness,
to share what you have with others.
These are the sacrifices which God approves.

Acknowledgment of God

We speak in ways that reveal
how little we understand you,
yet everything we see and know
depends on your presence.
We wonder when you will come;
we believe we need to prepare
and we fail to realize
that we are never separated from your love.
The light of your glory spreads to every corner
and sends creation in every direction.
Through Jesus Christ we see revealed
the union between your divine essence
and the world in which we live and move.
Help us to be mindful and thankful, aware
that our knowing and seeing depend
on the life that you give.
May we wake to the light of each day
with our heart and our mind clear, open, and ready
to be a channel of your love and understanding,
to each other, and in the work we perform.
Amen.

Confession

We confess that we sometimes are not aware enough
to give thanks for our many blessings.
There are times when we see others
as the source of our problems
and there are times when we believe
that only we hold the truth, or know what is just.
We find it difficult to acknowledge
that our hands and our words
contribute to the violence, injustice, and falsity in this world.
There are times when we do not act
when our effort or kind words could heal and reconcile
our relationships with each other.
We forget to acknowledge
that through your mercy we are already forgiven.
Help us to separate sin and error
from our true being
and to understand our worth and value as part of creation,
that our purpose is righteous,
and that love has the power to transform
the circumstances of our lives.
Help our strength and help us trust in your truth and love,
to trust that we will prevail over any obstacle or resistance
that prevents our full realization of you.
May we realize the in nite power of your forgiveness
and may we also understand the power inherent
in our ability to forgive others and to forgive ourselves.
We confess these things
trusting in the example of Jesus Christ,
knowing that our redemption
comes through understanding our true essence
and opening ourselves to your blessings and compassion.
Amen.

Reading – Psalm 24

The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it,
the world, and those who live in it;
for he has founded it on the seas,
and established it on the rivers.
Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
Those who have clean hands and pure hearts,
who do not lift up their souls to what is false,
and do not swear deceitfully.
They will receive blessing from the Lord,
and vindication from the God of their salvation.
Such is the company of those who seek him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
Lift up your heads, O gates!
and be lifted up, O ancient doors!
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is the King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty,
the Lord, mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, O gates!
and be lifted up, O ancient doors!
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts,
he is the King of glory.

Reading – Romans 8:22-28

We know that the whole creation
has been groaning in labor pains until now;
and not only the creation, but we ourselves,
who have the first fruits of the Spirit,
groan inwardly while we wait for adoption,
the redemption of our bodies.
For in hope we were saved.
Now hope that is seen is not hope.
For who hopes for what is seen?
But if we hope for what we do not see,
we wait for it with patience.
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness;
for we do not know how to pray as we ought,
but that very Spirit intercedes
with sighs too deep for words.
And God, who searches the heart,
knows what is the mind of the Spirit,
because the Spirit intercedes for the saints
according to the will of God.
We know that all things work together
for good for those who love God,
who are called according to his purpose.

Meditation

The Lord’s Prayer

Reading

We minister through the gift of God’s grace,
through the working of God’s power.
Everything that is done is completed
through a divine order created by God
which is also accomplished in Christ Jesus,
in whom we have placed our confidence and faith.
Because of this we bend our knees to God,
from whom each family in the heavens
and on earth is named.
We pray that from the abundance of God’s glory,
and through spirit, God may grant to us all
the confirmation of our inner being and our heart’s faith.
We are rooted and grounded in love and we pray
that we may have the power to understand the breadth,
the length, the height, and the depth that God’s love spans.
This love surpasses knowledge
and through the life given to us by God
we are filled with the fullness of God’s love.
By grace we have been saved through faith,
not from our earthly works, therefore let no one boast.
We are God’s poem, transformed and re-born in Christ
for all the good works that God has prepared us for,
so that in God’s love we might live.
—adapted from Ephesians

Closing Prayer

Your everlasting glory and might surround us God,
and in your care we find rest.
Preserve us and show us how to care for each other;
we ask that your power help us in all that we do
and guide us to fulfill the purpose
for which we were born.
When we are in the presence of need,
let us be a channel of your blessings.
May we entrust to your care
those things that are beyond our ability.
We pray this, and all our prayers
guided by the example of Jesus Christ,
with trust and faith
in your providence.
Amen.
