Evening Prayers

Antiphon

Keep a firm grasp on what you know through faith. We know what we believe through our conscience. What we believe blooms through reason. We realize the fruit in our conduct.

Acknowledgment of God

More than the words of prayers, more than knowledge,
a faith has been given to us by those who surrendered
through Christ to you, O God.
Christ proclaimed among the nations,
believed in all parts of the world,
glorified in the heaven among us.
We ask you, O God of in nite love,
to bring us into the mystery of our religion,
bring us to the fountain of strength
and nourishment that comes with devotion to complete love.
Let our spirit become the essence of the spiritual,
let our life become the essence of your presence,
let our work become your movement in the world.
We seek to understand the resurrection
that we might live redeemed in a world
that is made whole by your love.
Let us seek and find the renewal of the resurrection
in everything that lives, everything that breathes,
in everything that dies, everything born to new life.
Amen.

Reading – Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved;
God will help it when the morning dawns.
The nations are in an uproar, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.
Come, behold the works of the Lord;
see what desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God!
I am exalted among the nations,
I am exalted in the earth.”
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.

Meditation

The Lord’s Prayer

Closing Prayer

During times of trouble we seek to eliminate the pain we feel. This pain in our bodies and the mental anguish we experience— we wish for them to end. Help us understand how to help ourselves. We want to know the reason, yet we do not do the things we know to do for our spiritual well-being. Help us to understand that we receive as soon as we are ready to receive. Help us to maintain consciousness of your presence, awareness that we are constantly being shown what to do, knowledge that we are given what we need in each moment. And at the end of every day we give thanks for all the blessings of our lives. Amen.
