The Purpose of Identity

2016-022 There is always going to be a tension between one’s understanding of oneself and one’s understanding of God. There will always be a tension also with one’s understanding of how one is perceived by others in the world. Every person gets caught in this web of relationship within themselves, and this is where it is so essential for every person to find a way or a path inward because this lets the ways that the world interprets one’s own being out of the equation. It leaves oneself with God. Now, what we are about to say is often misunderstood, but there is a purpose for the identity in the world. Some forms of spirituality would have the person believe that because the identity is empty that it is meaningless, and this is not true. The personal identity is just as much a tool of learning as our dreams, experiences, and all other manners of self-realization. The experience of an identity by the soul is a meaningful experience. In effect, the soul being of the essence of God is the connection with the body through which God experiences God’s own creation. This movement or this life force, this can be in harmony with the identity that develops or it can be in disharmony with the identity. When the identity is in harmony, then the experience of pleasure or the experience of elation, feelings of awesomeness or wonder, even feelings of pain and suffering, all of these increase the awareness in the soul. They are like opening a channel even wider. This identity, when it is in perfect harmony with God, recognizes that all that is true and good come from God, and does not seek to appropriate anything as its own. It is a gift to have an individual soul. It is a gift to have capacities that are usable, as the senses are usable, both passively and actively. These things are practical, and the ability of the soul in its interaction with the body is functioning and working similar to the young child who has the building blocks to play with in kindergarten. You might say that the creative ability of the individual soul is like the kindergartener in the creation of the creative ability to God who is like the adult. It seems so close, yet is also so distant in terms of its capacity to create. This is why the human being’s ability to create is often only a function of using material tools and material substances. The capacity to create out of the non-material is a God-like capacity.
