It is a generalization, meaning that it is not always true, but it is something that should always be considered: that a choice for less is a better choice for the soul if the choice for less means that there is less being given to the desire, the attachment, or the aggrandizement of the soul’s ego presence in the world. When there is too much in the way of material quantity, too much in the way of ego-centric attention, or strong attachment to the appearance of things, these cloud the ability of the human being to see into their true nature.
Understand always that the physical is a representation of the spiritual. One could say that all illness is derived from separation from source, the incomplete expression of the source of all love and truth, but how does this separation occur? Of course it occurs with the ego where there is a sense of a separate identity, a separateness that you identify with. And so the energy and the tension and the tiredness come about because of a lack of alignment. You might say that the ego expends a lot of energy holding on to certain kinds of self-concepts.
There are many kinds of prophets and many kinds of prophecy. Each of these prophets and these forms of prophecy are understood in different ways when they are seen through a different cultural lens. But remember that the way the prophecy is seen is like the artistic patterns in the ceiling of the mosques, where there is what appears by way of its color and is represented in the visible spectrum by color, and then there is the underlying geometric patterns which is like the divine order, the structure underneath the final representation.
The ego can use the knowledge that the abundance of God is available to everyone at any time and place, and yet mislead the individual with regard to the balance, the values, and the understanding of the order that is the essence of the universe. When these things come into conflict, it is frustrating and anger can erupt. But understand that the eruptions and the anger also signals that the answer is close at hand; that the transformation is coming, because the anger will run into its own creation, its own fear, and it helps identify the obstacle to one’s inner peace.
One aspect of the choice is to choose the material, to enjoy the material abundance—both the abundance of God and of the handiwork of humans. In contrast is the choice to enjoy the abundance of spiritual gifts in and through God. Do not make a mistake in thinking that you can ignore the material world. That is not the point. The point is, as you already know, the choice that is made according to purpose, the spiritual purpose of the being, first. This applies to any human endeavor. There can be, and often is, material abundance for those who make the spiritual choice to align with their purpose.
The process of change that science has identified and described as evolution is essentially a spiritual process. And just as science has discovered, when everything is looked upon as a material manifestation, the process is very long in the human understanding of time. The chronology is millions and billions of years.
It is almost impossible to avoid the soul’s growth in this world. But it is also easy to underestimate the ability of the human being to avoid this same growth. Once can think of it like a struggle, and so sometimes the fight human beings put up is harder and harder until there is a breakdown and an openness and an adjustment.
There are always important events in a life, milestones, or important transitions. It is best to remember that these are part of a larger process of movement toward perfection. If we look at birth and death—yes, these are important events—but in the context of perfection they are simple steps along the way.
Why are you surprised to know that I see with your eyes, that I touch with your hands, that I feel the same things that you feel in your heart? Why are you surprised to know that your very being is an extension of my being? Is it truly a surprise to know that I experience your thoughts before they emerge in your own mind?
There are so many ways that others, other individuals, other groups, those that speak for groups ask for commitment. They ask in personal ways through the spoken word, and through the traditions of giving. So these commitments are very difficult for a person who needs freedom in order to understand themselves, in order to understand how the mind works, in order to understand how the higher consciousness that is present function.
So we wish to speak about the principal cause of ignorance. When there is a system like the human being, one or more parts of the system can appear to rule, and might actually rule the whole system. This is easy to see with things like emotions, where the emotion can become so intense that it overrules thought or intuition or even the ability to sense something in the surroundings like smell or taste or touch. But the intellect can also rule all of the systems.
When Jesus meets the woman at the well and he says to her that he can give her living water, he is really speaking of giving her or helping her experience greater awareness of the consciousness that exists of God. His own being, fully saturated with Christ-consciousness is the gift. So when he says that he is the gift, we must understand that we are being given the gift of consciousness.
Too often, the ego would like to control the body, the mind, and ultimately the soul. For if the body and the mind and the soul are in alignment with the ego, then the ego can ask anything and the body, and the mind and the soul will obey. But understand that the ego’s desire is never satisfied. Though your physical stomach may feel full, the ego’s stomach is like a bottomless pit. The more that is shoved in and falls through the bottom, the more anxious the ego gets that it cannot fill its desire, and it shovels more and more into the being.
2016-148 In the world, there are only the smallest differences between the paths that people travel. This does not mean that there are not large differences in how people approach those paths, but you should know going forward, as you have known up to now, that what looks like a material path may be a spiritual path, and what looks like a spiritual path may unfold only in a material way.
For a long time human beings were subject to the conditions of their birth, but now because of the advanced nature of consciousness in the material realm, there are those souls who enter the earth with an intuitive understanding that there are few limitations, even in the material realm, such that they may choose a birth of circumstance, choose a childhood circumstance, choose a different adult situation, in which their karma unfolds and is burned away. This is why at this day and time, as consciousness is raised, women and men see fewer gender limitations to their role, to their behavior, and to their life circumstances.
Human beings tend to see the ego as a psychological phenomena, but it is important to understand that the ego can use the physical body to control the being, just as the ego uses an addiction to help control the being. It is the psychological imprints or patterns, scripts, that help create the addictive behavior, and then the body becomes dependent on the drug or the food or the drink. But what of the people who are not addicted to drugs or food or drink, how can the ego assert itself?
Intention brings much energy into the moment. Unfortunately, frequently the intention is generated through egoic or self-centered, self-serving processes. So this is why the intention of the awake mind must gradually move into alignment with the purpose and intention of the soul and the expression of that purpose in the material world.
In order for him to unlock this compassion and kindness, he needs to see his ability to listen, his ability to be present, his sense of wonder and devotion directed toward other people in the same way that he directs it toward God or toward those with whom he has affinity. Other human beings, when they are given this kind of compassion and kindness, frequently cannot hold the gaze of a person who reaches out to them or wishes to hold them with this kind of compassion.
